A third generation Floridian, James R. Spears was born in Sarasota, Florida, and grew up in Plant City, Florida. He attended Hillsborough County Public Schools, where his Mother is a School Nurse. He attended The University of South Florida where he obtained a B.A. in Criminology. Mr. Spears then went on to The Florida State University College of Law, where he obtained a juris doctorate. Upon graduating law school, Mr. Spears joined a private law firm where he gained significant experience representing municipalities, employers, businesses, corporations, individuals and insurance companies in the prosecution and defense of workers’ compensation, personal injury, wrongful death, products liability, and social security and insurance related claims and disputes. Mr. Spears soon became a partner in the firm as well as Board Certified by the Florida Bar in the area of Workers’ Compensation Law. In 2009, Mr. Spears left the firm to start the Law Office of James R. Spears, so he could focus his efforts in helping those injured or disabled as a result of injury or illness.
Mr. Spears has unmatched trial experience in claims involving firefighters, police officers and corrections officers and the statutory presumptions found in Section 112.18(1), Florida Statutes, commonly referred to as the “Heart/Lung Bill”, as well as Section 112.181, Florida Statutes, which involves hepatitis, meningococcal meningitis and tuberculosis.
